Daija O’Banion, LPC
“Growth begins with self-compassion and the courage to face our challenges.”.
Daija is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who specializes in helping adults and teens navigate anxiety, depression, and trauma, as well as relationship issues. One of her core beliefs is the importance of building a genuine therapeutic relationship. Daija understands no two journeys are the same.
She welcomes clients of all backgrounds and identities. She works hard to provide a warm, safe space to begin building a plan of action together. Daija brings experience from a variety of backgrounds, including a therapeutic community for teens struggling with PTSD, mood disorders, and low self-esteem. In addition, she worked as a staff counselor at Saint Xavier University, where she provided ongoing therapy for students of all ages.
Daija has an MA from Valparaiso University and is certified in Trauma-Informed Care. She says that “trauma often underlies many struggles, affecting how we respond to everyday challenges”. Daija believes strongly in instilling hope early on. Her goal is to helps clients see their strengths and the cycles that they’ve been in that are sometimes self-sabotaging. She guides them gently, but directly toward building a plan together that can instill confidence and create lasting change.
She uses evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness. In addition to this, Daija is trained in other therapies and carefully works with clients to design the best strategy that will fit their needs.
Daija likes to remind people that “you’re not alone in this journey, and I’m here to walk alongside you”.
