Martin Therapy Group
About Dr. Harvey Martin – 815-464-8577
I have been a licensed psychologist for 12 years and have provided therapy to clients for over 19 years. I have worked in a variety of settings including both psychiatric and medical units in hospitals, community mental health centers, and assisted living facilities. I have completed advanced level 3 training in Gottman relationship therapy.
However, any professional you use will have credentials. Credentials alone won’t tell you much about what therapy is like with that professional. The best way to know someone is to spend time with them in person. Since we haven’t met, I will share with you how I view therapy and try to do it.
There are many factors that determine whether therapy is effective. The most powerful factor that involves the therapist, is the quality of the therapeutic relationship that is formed between the client and the therapist. Each individual is unique. An intervention that is helpful for one client may not be helpful for another. A therapist’s interaction that helps one client feel heard, understood, and respected, may have the opposite effect for another client. Because of this, there are two factors that drive my work with clients. First, I strive to view each client as an individual, and just not a diagnosis to apply a standard protocol to. Second, I strive to monitor on an ongoing basis whether our work together is helping you meet your goals, and make adjustment if that is not fully happening.
